Engaging With Your Spirit Man
|Have you ever seen your spirit man? Have you ever caught a glimpse of your eternal state? Just recently, I was watching a video of a brief teaching I had done making sure the recording was ok, before being posted. Suddenly, while looking at myself, my spirit man appeared before me. I was overwhelmed by my supernatural state. I saw and heard my spirit man speaking. It wasn’t me, the natural me, it was the other me. It was the eternal me. It was as though Father opened a door in the Spirit for me to see my true state in the kingdom of heaven.
I have actually experienced this before, but this time it was far more intense than all the times. The only way to describe it is that I was seeing and hearing my spirit man, which looked like me, but bore a perfected presence and knowledge that was beyond this realm. Unlike my other brief encounters, I felt my eternal state overtaking me, leaving its mark in my soul. Another layer of blindness had permanently been removed from my eyes.
As I meditated on this experience, several things came to mind.
I was reminded of a few passages of scripture where Paul writes,
“Love never fails; but if there are gifts of prophecy, they will be done away; if there are tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be done away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part; but when the perfect comes, the partial will be done away. When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things. For now we see in a mirror (riddle) dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known.” 1Corinthians 13:8-12
We know that that which is perfect, Jesus, has already come. Therefore, we have all been perfected in Christ. For the most part, our natural form and mind dims our perfected state in Christ. Currently, we mostly see ourselves from a place of spiritual immaturity.
However, as we step further away from a partial view of our glorious state in the kingdom of heaven, we are then able to see our other-self in its glorious form. The majority of humanity sees a dim reflective state of their spirit man.
Looking into a mirror and seeing yourself dimly, is another way of saying that you lack the light/revelation to see yourself rightly.
The word “dimly” in this passage of scripture means riddle, which implies your true form is still a mystery to you.
Nonetheless, Father is affording us the opportunity to see ourselves through the perfection of Jesus Christ. Jesus is our doorway to see beyond the dimness, beyond any imperfection. We are invited to know Him, thus ourselves fully, just as we are fully known.
I realize this might be difficult for many to believe, but I caught a glimpse of my eternal self, my perfected state in Christ. You see, I believe many of you have seen your eternal state, but didn’t realize it in the moment.
Therefore, I want to take this opportunity and help you remember. I’m going to help you recall a brief moment when you actually saw or heard the other you; the eternal you.
Think back to a moment when you were engaging with someone. Maybe you were just setting around a table, or kicking back in a comfortable chair at home while spending time with some friends. Or, you could have been setting in a coffee shop drinking your favorite latte’ while deeply engrossed in conversation.
I want you to look back at one of those moments when you said something that you felt was beyond your present state of understanding. You might remember walking away thinking, “Wow, I didn’t even know I knew that.”
Some of you, might have been in a situation much like myself, when you watched; listening to yourself speak, while feeling an odd sensation come over you, as if the person you were looking at was really someone else.
I can’t count how many times, after ministering in a meeting, when Lori has said, “While you were speaking I did not see you, I did not see Michael, my husband, I saw another man.” In that moment, Lori saw the other me, a reflection of my spirit man, my eternal self.
There are recorded times in scripture when the disciples saw the Spirit Man, the eternal side of Jesus Christ. On the mountain of transfiguration, while conversing with Moses and Elijah, they saw Jesus take on the form of light. Again, while in a boat, they saw what appeared to be a ghostly man walking on the water, moving in their direction. It wasn’t until after Jesus spoke that they realized who He was.
Whatever your engagement with your spirit man has been, I want you to know that you just didn’t have an experience with Holy Spirit, but you caught a glimpse of the other you, the eternal you.
As you become more aware of your spirit man, the more obvious he will become to you.
In those moments, the dimness of your true state in Christ will become much less, so much so, that you will began to capture the true glorious state of your eternal being in Him.
We are now in a time when our spirit man is breaking the barrier of concealment. We are beginning to move about in every dimension of the kingdom of Heaven. Like Jesus, the laws of physics can no longer limit us, or confine us to our natural state.
The wars at hand will not be resolved through the power of the flesh. They will only come to end when we, the people of God, realize our true state and unlimited access as eternal beings in the kingdom of heaven.
The next time you look at yourself, I challenge you to see beyond an unperfected image of flesh and blood and see the perfect you, the one that is fashioned by the Spirit, destined to reign in/with Him for eternity.
Come on God!
